Q. What is self storage?

A. Self storage is the term applied to secure storage facilities that offer do-it-yourself storage space for members of the public and businesses. In essence it's your own tailored secure space away from home or the business.

Q. Why use self storage?

A. There are a number of reasons to use self storage, whether for domestic or commercial use self storage facilities offer a flexible solution:

  • If you're moving house and you need to temporarily store furniture
  • When you're renovating your home and need to keep household possessions safe
  • If you're relocating abroad and want to store your valuables during the move
  • Somewhere to put your belongings while you go off travelling
  • If you find that your hobby or sports equipment is taking over the house!
  • When you just don't have enough space at home anymore

    Q. How long do I have to rent the space for?

     

     

    A. Self storage units are most often used to provide medium to long term storage solutions, but they can also be used to store items for less than a week.

    As an example, last year a third of customers used their units for 100 days or fewer, while the average length of stay in the bigger units was around 40 weeks.

     

    Q. How much does it cost?

    Q. What can I store?

     

     

    A. You can store most items, however UK Self Storage facilities operate under British law and as such it is illegal to store objects such as firearms, illegal substances (drugs, explosives), dangerous weapons or anything that is illegal or that could be harmful to public health. Also, we do not store food or other perishable items.

     

    Q. Will my storage space be private?

     

     

    A. Yes. Your storage unit is protected by your own padlock and only you retain the keys.

     

    Q. Will I need to insure my items?

     

     

    A. Yes. This will provide cover against loss or damage to your goods during the period of storage. Most operators do not cover loss or damage to your goods and it is unlikely that your home contents insurance will either. If your goods are worth storing, they should be insured! Ask about our insurance packages when you book

     

     

    Q. Is Self Storage only useful for big items?

     

    A. The average unit size is roughly 80 sq feet. Any items bigger than this cannot be stored with us.
